The Summit Series #7: Mount Gould, Montana

Mount Gould

The dramatic east face of Mount Gould.

Mount Gould is a magnificent peak located in Glacier National Park, Montana. At 9,553 feet (2,912 m), it is the highest point on the famous Garden Wall ridge. It was named after G. R. Gould, a hunting companion of famed Glacier mountaineer George Bird Grinnell. The easiest route to the summit is located at Logan Pass, with a one way distance of approximately 6 miles (9.6 km), 4 (6.4) of it by trail. With careful navigation, nothing worse than class 3 scrambling should be encountered during the ascent. In total, 3,000 feet (914 m) of elevation will be gained.

Views from atop this mountain are among the most splendid in the entire region. There are no mountains immediately in front of Gould, and as a result the scenery is entirely panoramic and unobstructed. In all directions one can see countless rocky peaks. This is a highly recommended climb and is easily one of the most rewarding in the area. Please enjoy these photos from my experience on this magnificent peak!

A captivating view of Haystack Butte during the ascent.

My friend Mimi climbs a large boulder found partway up the mountain.

An incredible view from the summit. Angel's Landing is seen directly below.

My friend Alex calls his shot among Mount Gould's upper cliffs.

The grandeur of the Rocky Mountains.

On top of the world :)
