Oh the joy of patiently waiting and observing finally paying off!
Although we only purchased our land a few months back, we've been living nearby for almost two years now. During that time we have taken the opportunity to observe the land and do some preliminary research and work on it. Being able to see the land and plants and animals on it through the different seasons and conditions has been great.
Land can look a lot different in a dry spell compared to a torrential downpour, or in the middle of winter compared to the heat of summer. For instance, not being a local, I wouldn't know what kind of trees these were in the winter or early spring.
However, since ye shall know them by their fruits, there is no mistaking what kind of trees these are now!
MATURE AMERICAN PERSIMMON TREES
Thankfully, they were mature American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) trees! I hear that they can take anywhere from six to ten years to fruit, so finding some already bearing fruit is a huge blessing. Also, they are just a short walk from the house site!
As an added bonus, some of the fruit is even low enough for the @little-peppers to pick. Since we plan on growing a lot of our own food and even planting a food forest, it is important to keep in mind what useful or food bearing plants are already growing on the property.
We will continue to evaluate our resources and take note of what we find. When possible, we will be working trees like these in to the final plan for our land. Since they are already growing and producing, we have no need to plant a Persimmon tree right in this spot... though we do have 100 seedlings!
After harvesting two deer off of this property last hunting season and also finding Gooseberries, Blackberries, Rabbit Tobacco, Sassafras, Wood Sorrel, Yarrow, Persimmon and other wild things, I couldn't be more excited about the potential for the future.
Also, it is a huge blessing to be able to share my successes and failures with all of your, so that you can enjoy the ride too. I've already got a video recorded for my Plants on the Homestead series that features the American Persimmon tree, so stay tuned for that if you want to learn more about this great plant!
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

I would like to try these persimmon fruits
Persimmons are so good, we don't get them here at our local fruit market often and when we do they are not cheap. But well worth the price.
Your girls are adorable!
love persimmon trees! I love how the fruit remains even when the leaves drop in autumn and they look like xmas balls on the tree. Delish too
I have never eaten a fresh Persimmon before other than dried ones. They look like wild peach or apple. Thanks for posting the adventure of Persimmon!
@papa-pepper you are so lucky to have such a beautiful piece land!.
Thank you, we are truly blessed.
That is awesome. How much property did you pull the trigger on?
I was able to grab 5 acres a couple of years ago and owning a piece of land off the beaten track is the best.
Love little bonuses like your trees. I got a little bonus when I had a well company come out to take a look at my "dried up" well....only to find out it was A-OK and producing even at the height of our SoCal drought.
Can't beat these kinds of things.
Nice! 😀 😃 😄 😁
That's what I was saying!!! LOL
LOL thanks for this...😀 😃 😄 😁 I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!
They look like peaches :), congrats.
Thanks for posting!
Sure, they sort of do! Plus, they taste like orange flavored freezer pops!
First pic definitely looks like peaches
Keep going friend! Live free and enjoy your blessings!
Your daughters are beautiful! What a wonderful tree and how awesome that is that the fruit tastes like yogurt, yum! 😃
Thank you so much! It's a beautiful life!
I love native persimmons!! We had them in Texas before we moved to Michigan.
A trick you can do if they are soft, but still a little tickley in the mouth, is freeze and thaw and freeze them. That will help to ripen them.
Plus, if you half freeze the ripe ones they are great for a hot days' treat!
This is a very good post that many people love
I can just imagine your joy! I still remember my husband's pride when he harvested something out of our garden for the very first time...
Pomegranates and peppers! Looks delicious!
That's so great that you have bearing persimmons on your property! One of the great foods of North America, in my view! You will get to know these trees by their bark, too. It's so rugged and distinctive. If you have a game camera, you will see a lot of different animals enjoying the fallen fruit! That wood is something special, too - it's related to Ebony and is great for craft wood projects. Enjoy your persimmon trees!
wow very good post
im very like this from image until writting .good job
Looks like you've been blessed in many ways, my friend!
Fully agreed! Thanks again!

Some quick information on the fruit. What an exciting find and natural contribution to your efforts!
Yeah, I am doing a more in depth post about why we want to grow them on the homestead later. Thanks!
thank you!
Thats Great sir..What a blessing finding so many food sources on your property. Food forrest is a great idea also,,cant wait to watch it all unfold Brother..Great post as always
Feel free to watch it unfold. I'll keep you posted!
Yeah sure is!
We have a nice sized, mature persimmon along our fence line. I tricked the kids into biting into a green one some years back and they still don't forgive me for that! Glad to see you have some free fruit to eat!
Oh no! Biting unripe one!?!?!?!
You sir are just mean!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I love them!! Very tasty fruit. Thanks for sharing and congrats!! 😊
One of the things I love most about living here in Belize is all the fruit. We have berry (I still don't know exactly what it is) and mango next door that we have access to and several cashew and of course coconut in the yard. Once we have our own land, I'm gonna do the full permaculture plan, and we'll definitely have orange, lime, avocado, banana, and breadfruit trees in addition to what we already have. And pineapple too, though that's not a tree.
Congrats on finding fruiting trees! A blessing, indeed.
That sounds so amazing! Wish we could grow even more kinds, but we'll take what we can get!
It really is wonderful. I forgot soursop, which should never be forgotten. Alas, though, we can't do Apple, pears, peaches, blueberries, or grapes. Gotta love what's local!
Nice find. I've never tried persimmon.
I tried some of the Asian varieties a few years back, but we've been enjoying these for a couple years now.
cool stuff.
I hope my steemit investment pays off in the form of profit for land.
My wife @addiemae and I are looking for land in the mountains of Georgia.
What you have here is inspirational.
Just my two STEEMS Worth.
Thanks man! Invest! You can mine crypto with your mind!
I just harvested cucumbers and made a cucumber ranch salad! So good!
It certainly sounds great!
Oh wow! I don't think I have ever seen those. We had Paw Paws in our woods. They called them Indiana Bananas
Getting ready to plant some Paw paws now! Got 100 of them ready to go!
Nice!
Ever tried eating one before it ripens. Heh, heh...
If those are same as the persimmons we had as a kid, wait until they drop off the tree by themselves, don't pick and eat or it will be the last time you do.

Been there, done that! Thanks!
Are those your kids? they're cute and thanks for grate post
you're so lucky @pappa-pepper. persimmons are really sweet and one of my favorites too.
We have persimmon too. I've never tried it and can't wait. Thank you for sharing.
Make to wait until they are ripe!
Yay you! What a great find!! I can hardly wait to see the place next spring!
Brilliant post buddy. Everyone would wish to have such an adventure like you. Upvoted and following u. Please do review my recent post on beautiful mosques globally and provide your feedback if possible. Regards Nainaz
A very great job @papa-pepper. Trees can provide great benefits for nature and humans themselves of course. Nature will be very fortunate if it has many trees because it can stabilize the temperature of heat and store water supplies. Always success for u.
Over time you will find many more secret. Keep up the good work, my friend and steem on to more and more victories
Thanks for the encouragement my friend!
After you eat all fruit you purchase you should plant the seeds just to see if it works. You might be surprised.
Indeed - I did a post about that last year!

What amazing little fruits, I'm quite taken with your self sufficiency plans as well should be quite a journey - followed to tag along and see how you get on.
Cool, come along for the ride!
Very good.
What a fantastic blessing to find these on the place! Kudos to you for taking the time to learn what is growing there on the land before chopping any of it down!
Sharing to show others how to do it!
No kidding, it I would have chopped it all down, I would have lost a lot!
Yup and now is the time to start looking for the treasures of the medicinal mushrooms and see what is growing there... Reishi, lionsmane, chicken of the woods, turkey tail etc.....
