In the urban and desert landscape of Albuquerque, you wouldn't expect to find a Japanese style garden, but this city is nothing if not full of surprises.
In this case, the pleasant surprise is a marvelous aspect of the Biopark, an all-around lovely place, with unending marvels. The Sasebo Japanese Garden is one of the newer marvels. In a secluded corner of the botanical gardens, this four acre garden is an oasis of peace and beauty.
The entrance to the the Sasebo Garden is nothing short of grand. While our visit preceded rose blooming season, the variety and multitude of rose plants is obvious, even without the blossoms. The High Desert Rose Garden at the entrance of the Sasebo Garden boasts over 100 varieties of roses, with over 400 rose plants. Shockingly, roses are perfectly suited to a life in the high desert, as their deep roots and hardiness make them adaptable to many climates.
Following the rose entrance, you'll spot a zen garden spotted with pagoda style buildings. An enormous koi pond (with enormous fish) is amplified in beauty by the addition of a tinkling waterfall. Elegant wooden touches and immaculately kept plants make this place unlike anywhere else in the city. The gardens include both native and Japanese flora.
The garden is an ode to one of Albuquerque's sister cities, Sasebo, Japan. Every inch of the gardens were lovingly crafted by creative, talented hands. While the entire Biopark is a gem, this corner of it is supreme, and absolutely worth a visit, should you ever find yourself in the Land of Enchantment.
Seems to be very beautiful garden to see. 👍

This is really awesome. Do they have a lot of areas that you can just sit and relax and take it all in? I have been to some gardens in the past that are just walking paths and you don't get the chance to truly stop and appreciate them.
The pictures are beautiful. Looks like a lovely place to visit. I wish I had something like that in my city. I like the picture of the Bush with white flowers. Very nice.
