Drone shots of the river rape going on outside my home this afternoon!

Bali has many illegal sandstone mines and this has been going on for years.

Today I flew my drone to get a better shot of what they are up to, after recent new (and very loud!) sounds of hacking and sawing coming from directly beneath us in the valley.

All the workers ran away as fast as they could when they saw it approaching.

Hopefully because they all believed it to be a demon... and as a consequence they will never return!

But more likely because they didn't want to be filmed or photographed.

You can just about make out one of the workers running away with his wheelbarrow in this shot.

They know that what they are doing is illegal but to be fair, there are not too many other options for workers like them.

So none of this is really their fault at all.

They are just trying to support their families.

There are others to blame for what is going on here, and this is something I will be examining in further posts.

Here a few other shots from this afternoon...

In this one you can see the proximity of my home to the mine.

It appears that they are preparing the way for a new mine, having already hacked away at so many chucks of land.

Which will soon bring with it the sound of petrol powered stone cutting from dusk till dawn.

THE SOLUTIONS ARE COMING!

Thanks for reading and please resteem to show your support.

This is how this lush Petanu River Valley should look!

Hello there. Yes I am the original author of both accounts. There is a little sensitivity around attaching my name to the second account for obvious reasons. My mistake here was that I forgot to encourage people to follow the second account with a link to it. I will add that now. Thanks for the heads up.

Trying to build a campaign by using my existing followers and status on the platform without attaching my name to it isn't so easy.

But for this river, it seems like the fastest route to achieving momentum.

It's sad that there aren't jobs available that help to preserve the environment.

For sure. Most of the jobs now involve working for the white people.

they are just supporting their families amazing :)

Everyone sees the world through their own perspective. Grow up in a family of drug dealers and you will most likely become a drug dealer. The same applies here.

I do not blame them.

I only seek to find an alternative source of income for them. Steemit perhaps! 🙏🏻

even if you introduce them to steemit , there will be others replacing them.
You can't fight big corporates that make big profit from cheap labors.

That is true. Well, I will just have to get those big corporate leaders into Steemit too ;)

I always take this attitude when I hear people making horrible comments about the poaching of wild animals. I'm a big animal lover and it breaks my heart when I hear about illegal poaching of endangered species. But it's kinda hard to really hate on a lot of these people when they are just doing whatever they can to support their families, and we in the West hold so much culpability for a lot of this environmental destruction, especially when it comes to our relentless consumption of things like palm oil. So sad to see, Indonesia is such a beautiful country. I wonder what will be left by the end of my lifetime, or even in 10-20 years. Thanks for sharing.

It is my pleasure to share this info with you. I will continue to share on this subject until the solution is found :)

If the Indonesian government could see the long term effects, perhaps they would stop taking the bribes.

Very good use of technology. I will give my activists friends in Romania the idea. Chapeaux bad 🤗

Thanks. I will be flying down there regularly to freak them out as often as possible!

Please see my response to @steemcleaners and it will become clear to you why this is far from uncool.

Thank you however for looking out for those who plagiarise with a dishonest intent.

is that in Ubud ?

A few miles south of central Ubud

Honestly, I am not sure if I should be pro or against it. Kinda sad.
Btw
Must be a blast having a drone in Bali :D

It's certainly a great toy to have in a place such as this. I don't use it half as much as I should though. Always at my computer these days.... for some reason!

Steemit? :`D

What are they mining for exactly? Nevermind that question. This does look like an exact copy of someone else's post?

Yes, it is a very similar post the the one I made two hours before on behalf on the account holder for @savetukadpetanu

I am helping them get the word out, so I always post in their account first and then in my own.

Sandstone is the answer to your question ;)

Ahh, excellent. I figured you may have had control of both accounts. :)

We have the same problem of illegal mining here in South Africa, but they normally mine for Gold, in mines that have abandoned by the big mining companies. This is a dangerous practice for these miners as the mines sometimes cave in.

We can hear the landslides all the way up the river (there are many mines) usually in the middle of the night, lucky for them. But that is the most common cause of death I believe.
