A delicious specimen of sour cherry. They are bright red and their juicy, tangy taste is worth picking lots.
One of the easiest fruit trees to grow in my experience, I suggest everyone plant at least one of these - if not for their delicious summer fruit then at least for its beautiful spring flowers. Sour cherry (Prunus cerasus) comes from Europe and Asia, but many can be found growing in southern Ontario.
It is known that sour cherry contains medicinal compounds such as melatonin. This is an interesting avenue of research considering its importance as a hormone in many species of animals. One thing is for certain, you can't go wrong picking and enjoying these delicious stone fruits.
amazing ...
What a beautiful photograph of a fruit tree. Love photographs of nature!
I guess a stone fruit means it has a pit in it???
