RE: Here's Why People Who Deny Global Warming Are Missing The Whole Point!

in #nature8 years ago

Man made pollution is an issue, million's of people will die due to toxic complication's in a whole host of complex diseases and other issues. You say there are alternatives to fossil fuel's? I say show me one. And before you talk about solar or wind or geo thermal there is no comparison. In fact the fossil fuels used to produce one electric car are estimated to be the equivalent of 8 years of burning fossil fuel to drive an internal combustion vehicle. Same for the production of solar panel's and wind turbines. Today alt energies are heavily subsidized by government to make them viable at all and a lot of those subsidies come from fossil fuel revenue. Living in harmony with our environment is an ideal goal and well worth the effort however it was fossil fuels that provided the energy you used to download steemit and upload your post. Fossil fuels were used to create your pc and your hand held device. Your clothes, your gas mask, the furniture in your home, your home. Fossil fuels bring the groceries you eat to your local just in time. It is how the vast majority of people get to work and home. In Toronto people who work here cant afford to live here so they must commute. Can't commute on a bike. I do not wish to down play the importance of your message but rather reiterate the importance of fossil fuels to our society. Until a new form of energy that is actually a viable alternative is discovered fossil fuels are very important and let's be honest fossil fuel's will be involved in the discovery of said new source of energy. Having an honest conversation requires more than just showing all the evil of fossil fuel but must acknowledge the good as well.

Shell’s proposed $4bn plant in Pennsylvania is set to benefit from tax credits of $66m a year for 25 years. Shell has bought the site and has 10 supply contracts in place lasting up to 20 years, including from fracking companies extracting shale gas in the Marcellus shale field. The deal was struck by the then Republican governor, Tom Corbett, who received over $1m in campaign donations from the oil and gas industry. According to Guardian analysis of data compiled by Common Cause Pennsylvania, Shell have spent $1.2m on lobbying in Pennsylvania since 2011.
