Turtles need naptimes too!
After a long hard day of free-diving and munching on sponges, this little green turtle decides to take a nap on a branch of soft coral. The coral provides the turtle with a stable, sheltered place to take a rest from the persistent currents that run along the reef walls of Bunaken, Indonesia.
Did you know that sea turtles can drop their heart rates to less than one beat per minute when sleeping? This enables the turtles to rest securely under a ledge or on a piece of coral for several hours while holding a single breath!
