Why you should grow your veggies from seed

in #nature8 years ago (edited)

Growing food from seed is a very rewarding experience.

It's a wonder more people aren't into it. Why don't you give it a shot yourself?

We conceived the idea to make an online seed company in the summer of 2016. After many years of growing in the garden and saving seed, it became clear that growing from seed every year can be easy, rewarding and very empowering. We hope to help guide you from seed to fruit (or veggie) by giving you tips on how to grow the biggest, brightest most flavourful vegetables and herbs. We aim to guide you on when to sow, learn to raise the healthiest vegetables and how to give them the edge over weeds and insect pests.

An experiment comes to life

We want to be the first online seed business that accepts Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for transactions. Incentivized by the low transaction fees, we feel that it's a good method to easily transfer funds between customer and seller in a secure way. The blockchain offers the freedom and flexibility that rivals other monolithic payment systems which often incur unfair fees and can be slow to process.

Canadian pride

Being Canadian we know the importance of saving hardy seeds. Often a late frost can damage the crop and set back growth. We strive to provide a varied selection of cold-hardy crops that can be grown in Zone 5 and cooler. There are many varieties of peas, beans, tomatoes and herbs that are suitable to the northern climes of Canada.

Quality seeds

We believe in sourcing seeds that aren't chemically treated or GMO. We feel that the buyer should be able to count on seeds that are clean of pesticides or fungicides and not genetically modified. We make sure to grow out our own seeds to ensure quality and give the customer peace of mind. Along with our vegetable and herb seeds, we hope to provide a limited quantity of cold-hardy tree seeds as well.

Encouraging local growers

Growing from seed can seem like a daunting task. However it's also very educational, rewarding and probably simpler than you think. Even with a small space to garden with, you can easily profit from the homegrown produce from a small packet of seeds. We know that all amateur gardeners can save money on groceries with a bit of persistence and green thumb.

Grow with us

We are in the early start-up phase and working on building a good base of seed varieties for sale. As we learn and grow we hope to provide informative articles on gardening, growing your own veggies and saving your seeds. We're looking forward to hearing your ideas and we welcome your feedback and responses.
