🐚The pearl of Malaysia (perfect spot for a calm recharging beach holiday)

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

Start of March means the monsoon season in Malaysia is finally over and we all can return back to enjoy the beautiful islands of the East coast.

Let me tell you about what I consider to be a real pearl of Malaysia - Perhentian islands.

And if my words won’t convince you to visit it, hope my photographs will do the job.

🏝Fit your needs

The Long beach of a small island is a good place if you are planning to attend the Full Moon party, enjoy the nightlife with fire-dancers and live music and have a proper beach rest by gorgeous blue lagoon during the day. Be ready to sacrifice certain aspects of the comfort because most probably you will stay in a very simple beach chalet.

On the other side, Big island is a family-friendly place where you will have an easy access to the beach with turtles and all the advantages of having a very relaxing holiday with the proper comfort meeting your budget abilities. It will offer you a variety of nicer resorts, a couple of nice restaurants and diving centres.

Both islands will provide you with the fascinating views, blue crystal clear waters, options to kayak and dive around as well as the disconnect from the world if you would choose to not use wifi and your mobile data (which will disappear from time to time anyway).

🏝Best snorkelling spots

Fantastic marine life is another reason why I’d travel to Perhentian more often. By far, they have the best snorkelling spots of Malaysia. All colours of tropical fish and corrals are perfectly visible during almost any day.

4h snorkelling tour will cost you 50 Rm (12 USD) and the boat will take you to several highlighted spots.

But the very speciality of the place is an opportunity to swim with turtles and observe their daily habits.

Check out the video we shoot last weekend:

🏝Recharge with nature

Being on an island helps me to feel more grounded and united with nature. Simply by breathing a fresh air and enjoying   sunsets along with the evening breeze will stop you from worrying about anything. Waking up because the troop of monkeys has decided to pay you a morning visit by jumping on the roof or gliding together with the one-meter turtle through the waves makes me feel happy and childishly excited for life. That’s the feeling I want to bring back to remind myself of the magical world outside of our urban jungles.

🏝Not crowded

After living several years in Asia, I certainly think that Malaysian islands are very much underrated in the touristic guides around South-East Asia comparing to Thailand or Indonesia. Which is not a bad thing as it will keep tourists from the massive invasion for at least the next couple of years. Until then I totally encourage you to visit Perhentian islands and enjoy calm and recharging holidays if you are looking for a lesser crowd and more chilled vibe.

🏝How to get there

To get to the Perhentian from Kuala Lumpur, you will need to catch a bus to Kuala Besut Jetty or fly to Kuala Terengganu or Kota Bharu and take a taxi (1.5h and 1h respectively) to the ferry station. You can also drive to Kuala Besut: the non-stop journey should take you about 6 hours. 25 mins boat ride after that and you will land in the paradise - the pearl of Malaysia and South Chinese sea.

Every piece of content I read usually sparkles certain opinion, ideas, dreams and desires within me. That's where the real outcome of the post comes out :)

That's why I'm always very happy to hear your feedback. Tell me, what’s your favourite beach spot/island in the world? Or what's your dream place to visit?

Do you like to connect with nature whenever you travel as I do or what's your main goal of holiday by the beach?

Happy writing and reading!

Absolutely gorgeous pictures! :) I love the tropics, would like go visit more. Growing up my favorite beach was Santa Cruz, Beach Boardwalk in California, Rocky Point in Mexico is nice, Cancun, is pretty nice. St. Pete's beach in Florida is really nice. Need to go to more. I would love to visit the Bora Bora, Hawaii, St. Thomas, Jamaica, New Zealand, and so many more places...lol :) Looks like you have an amazing time. Thanks for posting!

I like your "to visit" list - gonna check Hawaiian beaches in April and totally recommend NZ and Jamaica! And haven't been to any of your favourites. Will keep an eye on travel deals there ;)

Hi Vika, you should also have on your list to come and visit the Deserts of Arizona...lol Then I could show you around, I live in Phoenix. Preferably in the summer when it is 115 degrees here, so you get the "true" Arizona or "Aridzona" experience. lol :)

I would absolutely love to visit it one day! USA in general is still a very untraveled spot for me.

Oh wow, yeah there are sooo many cool places here in the US to visit. :) The Grand Canyon is here in AZ as well. Breath taking. California has so many popular sites to see, New York, Florida, the list goes on...lol

Thanks for that trip to such an exotic place with your great photographs!

Thank you for the kind comment! Appreciate your support 🙏🏻

Heya, just swinging by to let you know you're being featured in our Daily Travel Digest!

Beautiful pictures. I have to say I didn't like Perhentian Kecil (small island) too much, at least the long beach with all the plastic chairs, trash and construction sites. I'm glad I decided to stay there only one day.

By contrast, Perhentian Besar (big island) was one of the most beautiful places I ever visited in Malaysia!!! I loved snorkeling and swimming with the sea turtles and the beaches were like paradise. My favorite beach was Turtle Beach, which I would even consider as one of the most beautiful beaches of Southeast Asia.

yes yes completely agree! Besar is way nicer for me too :) although, I had an experience going all around the small island and trekking through the jungles without the path. that was a beautiful experience too. Turtles and turtle beach stole my heart once and for all ;) Where are you heading next?

Jungle trekking sounds good :) I also did a short jungle hike from Tuna Bay to Perhentian Island Resort/Teluk Pauh which was a little adventure.

At the moment I'm in Germany but going back to Thailand in a few weeks. Mostly I live on Koh Phangan but I have to get some things done here in Germany. Not sure yet which place I wanna visit next. In Malaysia Borneo is still on my bucket list.

Even for a Malaysian like myself, haven’t make a trip there! Should pay a visit soon :)

Oh yes, you definitely should! Gorgeous place :) what’s your favorite spot around Malaysia you’d recommend to visit?

Pulau Ketam is special and worth a visit and of course my hometown Penang Island. haha

Penang is so different and unique among other islands, love going there! will read more about Ketam - never heard before, thanks for the advice ;)

Nice @vikapuzach, that turtle looks amazing, haven't seen one close up before haha 😅 I should revisit this place again sometimes.

That was the first time for me too, although, I’ve been to the islands so many times!

Great post with colorful pictures. Makes me want to book a flight to some paradise asap!🌴

What's stopping you, @meandyou? :) and where would you go?
Btw welcome to steemit platform, wish you an amazing journey here!

Actually we (there's two girls/woman behind the nickname) traveled to Poland today and came from Thailand 3 weeks ago so no beaces at sight right now😅 Well there is this beach and it's frozen but otherwise Gdansk is beautiful! We haven't planned any trips for the rest of the spring yet but in autumn we will go to Italy ja and from there to Thailand again and prolly Indonesia😊

Nice! Gdansk and whole 3 cities there are wonderful during summer. Funny fact: my hometown in Russia is just a couple of hours drive from Gdansk - have been there so many times! Glad to know you’ve enjoyed it :)

Oh is that true, nice 😊 We'll hope to find some cool places here; restaurants, cafes and architecture. I believe this city would be very beautiful in summer!

very excellent video , nice post

thank you!

so beautiful post .

I love your post! You are so talented with the camera, that is by its own already a good reason why to travel with you! I also love quiet beach vacation to just connect with nature, not to drink a lot or party nor to eat fancy.
Just breathing sea air and having sand under my feat and sun in my face is already enough.

Aw, thanks dear! always up for new travels and nature discoveries :)

Such a beautiful place. My girlfriend visited it and was really stokes about it. I did not when I was in malaysia. But I did go to Tioman on the other side of Malaysia. Have you been there? Very beatiful as well. And tax free ;)

Hey @steef-05! Tioman is also on the East coast but a bit more south and yes, it's gorgeous too! but it was way more touristy which I don't enjoy too much. What's your favourite beach spot in general?

Now that's a difficult question. I might come back to it, because I'm going to the Maldives pretty soon hahaha.

Oh well, Maldives are on my bucket list! Enjoy your travels 👌🏼

Where did you find those swings? Is it at one of the locations of the snorkeling tours? Did not see them on the beaches close to Barat.

We found them at the very end of a beach close to Barat resort. Very randomly :P
