A few shots from our trip to Big Spring in Van Buren MO!

Big Spring became one of Missouri's first state parks when it was donated by the people in 1924. It is also one of the three biggest springs in the United States, with over 286 million gallons of water flowing out of it daily.

Along with the spring and a few great trails to hike, there are also camp grounds, and some lovely depression era cabins and walkways on site. These are the places where history lives still in my area of the world. This is the first building you see as you are driving into the park, which I assume used to be a ranger or welcome station. But isn't it just beautiful!?!?!

There was another building they called the Dinning Hall but it was unfortunately closed because of what seemed like flood damage. So we weren't able to go inside. Non the less, the spring and river itself was plenty of beauty for us. We checked out the spring and walked a trail that wound around the spring.

They used to believe that the springs around here were medicinal in ways, and I don't think that's far from the truth. The water is cold and helps with aches and pains, plus there just seems to be something so clean and clear about the air that just makes you feel so much better. But that's nature for you, now isn't it. ;)

The walkways and paths here are very well taken care of and laid with either natural stones found from the land or beautiful wooden bridges to help you cross those low lying flood creeks. There was also a big hollow tree close to a boat dock that my husband and oldest son were trying to cram my youngest son in... Haha! Boys will be boys, I suppose! I was quite surprised at how big the hole was and how deep it went.

I am a nature lover and it's times like this that really show me how beautiful it really is around here, and just how lucky I am to live so close to such beauty. I also look forward to doing some camping here soon!

Thanks for the photo tour! That place would definitely be worth seeing if I ever get down that way!

Let me know if you do and I'll give you the grand tour! ;)

That's a whole load of water flowing out the Big Spring - fascinating to learn so much about this park an indeed that entry station is stunning. It's quite ironic given the amount of water the spring passes that the dining hall was closed for flood damaged.

Oh but your dog is so photogenic, what a handsome hound I'm spell bound with that photo. Have you encountered #dogsofsteemit I think @carolkean organises - worth checking out.

Totally cracked me up with the tree, did the youngest man end up head first in that huge opening - and if he did how long did you leave him in there?

Super post, really enjoyed this one.

Thank you! The rivers are so easily flooded when we get a large amount of rain since it all runs to the rivers, and last year was a bad year for flooding. I do believe it eventually got to 28 feet above flood level, so that is a large destructive force on the land around the rivers. Many towns around here were hit bad and had a lot of damage from it.

And no I haven't heard of that, but I will sure check it out! Rhythm is her name and she is a pretty baby! She is a husky/Australian Shepherd mix and only 8 months old! Daddy and Bubbie didn't have the heart to actually put him in there since he was screaming his head off... Haha! Plus, unfortunately, there was a ton of trash shoved down inside that we couldn't get out.

Thank you for looking and commenting!

Beautiful place!

Love the beauty of Missouri. I will have to go there someday and experience it

Let me know if you do and I'll show you around! It is truly beautiful here and I'm constantly surprised at the parks and natural areas that are so close to me. We find new ones to visit all the time!

If I get down that way I will definitely take you up on that. I see all the cool scenery you and @melodyrussell post and it makes me feel like I need to go there ☺

That would be awesome!!! There are so many amazing places around here... and most are pretty close. Like, 2-3 hours at most and we'd have hundreds of different natural places and national parks to see! I haven't even seen them all yet, but that's a bucket list in itself. ;)

Come visit anytime @michaelevans and we’d all be happy to be your tour guides! Plus, it’s a lot of fun to hang out and chill with our little group of friends ;)

Your group seem to have a lot of fun playing music and chillin in the outdoors. And most everyone is on Steemit! Ill bet you guys are super fun to hang with. I just might take you up on that sometime. Thanks Melody!
