Happy #NeedleWorkMonday Steemit world! I know it’s been awhile since I posted about our sewing class. With my husband’s new work schedule it’s been hard getting to my parents house. There are times that my mom comes to our house to have class but it’s hard watching over the kids while trying to focus on sewing. It’s better for us to wait till my husband is off of work to stay home with the little ones. It’s much more quiet and peaceful over my mom’s and we get so much more accomplished.
Do you remember where we left off? Yep...it was time to insert my first zipper. I admit I wasn’t in a hurry to get it going. I was a bit nervous about the whole process so I procrastinated more than usual.
So what motivated me to get on the ball you asked? This post by @apanamamama! I had been talking to Kama about making her precious baby on the way some items. When she made this post introducing her to us it hit me that I had to get working! If you remember, originally I was making this baby bunting for my daughter...she just turned one and is walking now. Her wearing this bunting is not happening lol! When Kama told me she was expecting I knew which home this bunting would be going to :) So my goal is to get this sent off to her before her baby starts walking too! 😅
The Zipper Process
Mom got it started for me. She showed me how to pin the zipper down and then I took over.
She explained when I got to the bottom that I had to make sure the zipper was able to show from the other side or you wouldn’t be able to zip it. I needed to make more room for the bottom of the zipper to fit more comfortably.
I had to seam rip a few of the stitches in order for it to fit properly.
Here it is all pinned and ready to sew. But first I had to test to make sure it could zip up and down smoothly.
Here we go...
Yay it zipped just fine! This was a moment of accomplishment and it gave me a boost of confidence. ☺️
Next was the sewing. I wasn’t thrilled about this part so I asked my mom if she could sew the first side for me as I watched. I’m soooooo glad she did lol! The fabric started bunching up along the way so she had to really maneuver it to keep it aligned and straight. Yikes, I had a feeling it would do the same on my side...and it did.
This is what it looked like when I finished my side. 😬😁 Thankfully all we had to do to make it even was seam rip one of the back sides of the zipper and refold and sew it...
Whalaaaa!! Whew that was close! Everything worked out just fine thank goodness!
Sewing Around the Edges
I was happy to get to this part. This was more of a breeze for me because I can straight sew pretty good now. First was pinning all around the bunting from the sides to the bottom...
After pinning came the sewing and it was actually fun! I knew I was getting closer to the finishing point! 🤩 Here’s the front and back of the sewed bunting. I’m feeling pretty proud at this point!
The Cuffs and Tab
We lost the pattern instructions for making the cuffs but that was no problem for my mom who has been sewing for years. I’ll admit I had nothing to do with this part. I watched as she cut a piece from the fabric to make the cuff. She pinned it around the sleeve and sewed it, repeating the process for the second sleeve. She had to pin it pretty tight to get the cuff nice, firm and small. I actually like her cuffs better than what the pattern called for. These are smaller and look more sophisticated. I think these are more appropriate for a baby than the bigger cuffs that were intended.
Now all that is left to do is sew on this tab that I pinned and add the snaps. This part will go over the zipper for added security.
Looking forward to showing you the finished bunting and getting this sent off to it’s new home. 😊
I am so impressed! Well, it is a little late in coming, but, now you have a kick-butt gift for the new mama! :)
Great job and tell your mom what a great teacher she is. Zippers were hard at first and after the first few, they are a walk in the park. I just love the quality time spent with your mom and girls. It will be one of the fondest memories they ever have, with the three generational teaching/learning. I didn't think of it like that until I had my own kids and would remember fondly my mom, grandmother, and great grandmother sewing together with me. I wonder if my mom had pictures of that?
This was an absolutely splendid update on things and I cannot tell you enough how much I admire how you live your life out in front of your children. Many Blessings to you.
Thank you for being an awesome member of #SteemUSA!

Thank you so much! It is really a blessing to have this privilege of learning with my mom and daughter. Wow that’s amazing you had four generations sewing and learning together, just beautiful! 😍
Awww thank you so much for your encouraging and sweet words ~ ☺️🤗
You are always a pleasure!
Great job @crosheille it looks great and is adorable! 😁
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! 😃
It turned out great! I bet it will be used by a few babies as each grows and it gets passed on. Good job on the zipper, glad you and your Mom were able to get it to work!
Thank you! It would definitely be a great pass me on gift! I feel so accomplished with that zipper. Now I just need to keep practicing to get really comfortable with doing them.
que hermoso trabajo hiciste, te cuento que una de las cosas que se me hacen dificil en costura es colocar un cierre.
¡Gracias! 💗
Yay! A new seamstress in the making. Gifts are the best projects, especially for the little ones. Hugs, keep up the stitching.
Haha yep! One day I hope to be really fluent in my sewing! I really enjoyed making this, especially as a gift :D
Beautiful and you're so talented!!
I really appreciate that, thank you ~ ☺️
Awesome work, I remember helping my Wife to put a zipper in once and its a challenging job :)
Thanks for being an active member of @steemUSA !tip
Thanks so kindly! Yes it is challenging and so rewarding when it’s accomplished.
I only ever helped twice, well infact I did them both times and luckily she never made something needing a zip at least not while we were together

WOOOW you did it! While reading your post I got sweaty hands (I am still frightened by zippers) but you managed it so well. And this with a huge zipper, not the short ones I usually need for a skirt. The bunting is so cute with the bright dots and making it for @apanamamama is super lovely.
It is so good you managed to finish this and I still have no idea how you are able to get so much accomplished.
Sending you hugs and more sewing beams 🌈💕❤️
Yay!!! I did!!! It was surprisingly not as scary as I thought. I still need lots of practice.
Thank you! I’m so glad it is turning out well, especially now that it will have a new home.
Lol!!! I know, people can’t believe all the things I get accomplished while managing a big family. It’s my getaway from all of the crazy stuff haha! 😄 I push myself to make time for my leisure fun! In the end I am quite exhausted but it’s all worth it! 🤪😁😉
Buen trabajo @crosheille
¡Gracias! 💗
