MAKING A COUTURE DRESS FOR MY PHOTOSHOOT.

in #needleworkmonday9 months ago

Hello guys and a happy Monday, trust you all had a great day. This is my first time posting in this community and today, I would like to take you through a dress making journey with me but before I kick off, it is customary for me to tell you a little story behind the dress I made and possible name the dress together. This was the first time I was trying this style and i knew it would not be easy If you follow my post, you would know the story behind how I started sewing and every dress I make, i always have a story behind it.

Today I will be making a short corporate dress that was inspired from a look I saw on vogue magazine tagged sisters at court

(Here is the link: https://www.vogue.com/article/sisters-at-court).

For as long as I could remember, I have had an obsession with the world of glam, hence the name GEM. And I always felt that learning how to sew was the best decision I had ever made. It gives me the chance to bring my fashion fantesy to reality and saves me money. I have also been a huge fan of Magazine since forever most especially the vogue magazine and I hope to own one someday.
The concept sisters at court most particularly caught my attention, considering the fact that I am a huge fan of the vogue magazine, and black and white are my two favorite colors and the whole concept was just so beautiful as it encourages not just the power sisterhood, but also the diversity of women. It sort of reminded me of the Importance of sisterhood

It was a concept i really had in my head and a few days back, I received a text on my Instagram from a photographer concerning a shoot. He wanted modeling me and I knew that was my call to action to finally do something also pertaining to the concept of black and white and incorporate the vogue trend.

Today I would be making a black and white corporate dress with cowl neck. I will be using a check pattern fabric as opposed to the original inspiration from a black and whiter vertical pattern fabric.
EXCLIMER; although the sister at court was my inspiration, I would however NOT be recreating the dress but just incorporating the vogue trend an using black and white as well.

Here are my stats.
Length – 36
Shoulder – 17
Bust – 35
Waist – 27
Hips – 39

STEPS I FOLLOWED IN MAKING THE DRESS;
Exclaimer this is the first time i'm making a cowl neck dress.

•Step one: I started by drafting out my measurement on a pattern paper.

•Step two: I place my drafted out pattern on my fabric and started cutting out the back part of my dress.
N/B: since it is a cowl neck I have to cut the back first.

•Step three: when I was done cutting the back, I used the slash and spread method (With the same pattern paper) to cut out the front by drawing a horizontal line from my chest line to my armhole.

If you look closely you would however notice that I slashed
my pattern vertically rather than horizontal and had only noticed after re-watching the video guide I was using to make this dress, But as my mum would say, its better you make the mistakes now and make the necessary corrections now you can afford to, than later when you are on a bigger stage and can’t afford to make mistakes.

•Step four: I went ahead to cut out a similar pattern again for the front for turning just the neck line and I folded the neck line at the back using the fabric itself as a turning bias.

•Step five: i then went on with placing the cloths right side facing each other and joining the shoulders.

•Step six: I added the sleeves I already cut out and kept aside and joint my dress together.

Well, that basically a summary of the dress. What name would you suggest I give the dress?
