This is a very interesting material. It doesn’t tear like paper? It does look like brown paper that is usually used to pack food. I like the ornamental stitch you added to it.

It doesn't tear at all, it's made from paper and latex. Unwashed it's like this thick paper/carton stuff you use for crafting but more smooth and dense, when washed it's softer. There are a lot of examples what people made with it. It's not cheap (1 m x 1,50 m cost €20) but leather or other durable material is way more expensive.
