RE: Are Custom Orders Worth It?

in #needleworkmonday7 years ago (edited)

I once had a customer who wasn't quite sure what she wanted and the more things she added to the dress, the more money I saw I would be loosing.
So here's what I did, I told her it cost more than she is paying and I would have to return her initial payment
I told her any change in style led to an increase in the time of delivery
Also I told her that she can't make a change after the dress was sown. It was hectic but we worked it out in the end
So I propose that incase of next time, add extra three days or so to the day you hope to be done. This will give you more time for an eventuality.
Sorry about your thumb , an injury like that affects your whole being, it makes me restless and moody.
I'm glad its healing fast. Do take care of yourself.

That was smart of you to see where you were headed with losing money on the dress and nipping the whole thing in the bud like that. I'm definitely going to give myself lots of extra "lead time" if I do more custom work. I don't want to stop doing it but I clearly need to set more ground rules up front and do it in a way that gives me more control over the process!

Thank you, too! You don't realize how important and much-used thumbs are until you've got a wounded one!!
