Have you ever taken a second to rethink maybe there is just more in this world than you have seen or heard?
It's either we accept or not, but
there is always more to what meets the eye.
I remember a few days back when I sat outside with a friend of mine and he got me talking about how funny this world is. He mentioned the fact that no religion or Supreme Being created class or social distinction but we did it ourselves. The question he asked me that led to this discussion still rings in my head, he asked and I quote
As humans, where we were created to be equal?
I must admit this question got me starstruck. It's quite deep and at the same time, it has that flavor of personality buried within. Take your time and think about it, who exactly established the idea of the rich and poor, or as other people like to call it the Upper class and Lower class? It's no longer new to people that there is just more to this world that hasn't been talked about. Like Jane Austen said in her novel Pride and Prejudice
Till this moment I never knew myself.
I never really knew who I was as a person and how far I've grown in my way of thinking and handling life problems that slap in the face at certain times until when I was faced with such a question.
When my friend asked me this question, it got me puzzled for a while, probably a minute or two, but in the end, I realized that there is a whole lot we are yet to discover. I remember while growing up as a child there was a burning desire to be an adult, to experience the true walls of liberty.
Growing up, it was rosy and smooth going, mummy and daddy had it all figured out, so I didn't have to worry about a single thing. My only job then was just to get good grades and make my parents feel proud of their investment in me.
Now I see what it means when grown-ups say:
Life is hard
It's not all freedom as I thought it will be. Although I'm finally experiencing the freedom I desired for a long time but it comes with a price. I have to worry myself daily with things like
- What to eat. If it's hygienic or contains the essential nutrients or not
- The next step in my life and future
- Will I get married or even bear kids?
All these and more have got me thinking, that adulthood is not the haven I thought it would be. I felt it will be a different ball game where I will get to live and do whatever I damn pleased. I even fantasized about how I will get to call myself THE BOSS and manhandle all the challenges that come my way, cause then I felt those challenges were coming from just staying with my parents.
As Life would have it
It was far from what I thought. Funny as it seems, I have come to see that the liberty that comes with being an adult is all a mirage, disguising the true difficulty of decision-making. Like the Paradox of Choice says
It is much more difficult to choose among numerous options.
But now I just adopt the philosophy of my good friend @samotically,
Sometimes IGNORANCE IS BLISS
So it is alright if you don't know about everything or if your life hasn't been going the way you mapped it out to be. Even sometimes not knowing something has less chance of harming you. Give yourself some time and space to breathe, break the routine, go on a break, and reevaluate, try to see where you got it all wrong, then take steps to correct it. Remember nobody has it all figured out, we are only trying our best.
With time, I have seen that while as a child, I didn't have a clear picture of what life was, I didn't know what it meant to struggle for your survival and I didn't have the slightest idea of what the future had installed for me but one thing was completely certain that I will always do my best to give myself the life I deserve.
In the end, remember there is MORE TO WHAT MEETS THE EYE.
