Palm fruits
Wet palm kernel
Crushing dried palm kernels
The edible palm kernel seeds
Hello there! Today I bring you images of what I call my local snack which is the palm kennel.
Months ago I had already written extensively
on the palm fruits - how it's harvested and how palm oil is processed. Thinking deeply recently, I thought to bring it to public notice that after palm oil is processed out of the fleshy part of palm fruits, the nut or pulp that's left could be further processed.
As a matter of fact, palm fruit procession is the most lucrative local business I know of. This is because after you've processed the fleshy part to get palm oil for sale (palm oil is often used in a lot of meals hence the high rate of its demand), the palm kennel is dried and the nut is cracked to reveal an edible seed inside which could also be sold. There are machines for cracking them but I do it the local way which is by using a stone to hit the nut to a crack.
I call palm kennel my local snack because of the edible seed. Just like coconut, the seed is chewed and it produces a white sweet juice. The juice is swallowed and the crushed seed will be spat out.
Apart from this, just as we have the coconut oil from processing coconut, we have palm kernel oil from processing palm kernel which is also sold as a local skin care product.
Today I only bring you images of palm kennel, maybe if I get to produce the oil I'll show you all and explain how that is achieved.
Have a wonderful day everyone. All images are mine and were taken with my phone.
