Too often I hear of people being paralyzed in their home business. They were sold on this idea of starting their home business … and then they get stuck.
This often happens because they are simply running out of prospects, they are scared of being rejected or fear they are being salesy.
Not everyone is a prospect
So, in network marketing or direct sales, traditionally, you are taught the “old school way” of building a home business. You are told to make a list of family and friends or approach anyone that is within a few feet of you.
But that’s crazy isn’t it? That’s not a long term solution to building a real business. Imagine proposing marriage to everyone you go on a date with!
Frankly, not everyone is a prospect. Not everyone wants your service and not everyone is interested in joining your business if you are in the network marketing model. No matter what business you have, there is an easier way and there are two things you can do immediately and easily to change this. It’s liberating really.
Change your focus and never experience rejection again.
Realize that You are not for everybody.
Yup. Not everyone likes you. Not everyone cares for what you are offering and you just won’t click with everyone.
When you know that you are not for everybody, then you know you are for somebody. Focus on those people - not the ones that couldn’t care less about what you are selling or just aren’t a fit for you.
When you realize that there are people, looking specifically for you and what you are offering, the value you are provided, then you become the hunted, not the hunter.
Focus only on those that are supposed to be with you… supposed to find you and will never fear rejection again.
Your job is simple.
Stand still and sing your song and they will find you.
Now, that does not mean that you stand still and do nothing. What I mean by that is the second part of the equation.
Become an Information Source
It is your job is to be you but to provide consistent value, to share content and information relevant to your industry. In turn, the people who are looking for what you have to offer will become raving fans.
So, in a nutshell, here is how it works:
There are people out in the marketplace. There are people that like certain stuff.
For example, movies….
Someone who likes movies will be checking out movie sites, movie reviews, asking friends about the movies, checking out what is playing. They will be reaching out to a friend who they know goes to movies a lot. They may even go to Facebook and ask for a recommendation.
Those people specific to that market are locating an information source that they trust.
Based on what the information source tells them what to do, they check it out and ultimately they make a purchase.
Many refer to this whole process I outlined as Attraction Marketing.
Attraction marketing is when we put ourselves in front of people who are searching something. We become an information source for those people and when they are looking at purchasing that which interests them, we put them in front of what they are looking to purchase.
Traditionally marketing, which is not as effective involves going into the marketplace and offering and asking people to buy, who have not expressed an interest or raised their hand.
The point is, with Attraction Marketing you don’t need to chase anyone. You won’t run out of sales and leads ever, and you will certainly eliminate the fear of rejection because you won’t be rejected.People are coming to you. Refreshing, isn’t it?
Try it. This change of focus and way of doing business is liberating and it is simple…. really.
