I have finally found a job which I have been doing for the since November 2024. The probation of the job will end at the end of this month. This job is about making small satellites and my role is to design hardware and write software for the satellite.
At first, I thought I was able to apply the electronics skills on top of the software skills to expand on the list of skills I have onto my resume. But after a while, I feel like that is not really what I wanted. The work does not resonate with me. I have always wanted to try being part of a AAA game studio.
While I do not mind making electronics, I realized I know nothing of the satellite modules. I feel completely overwhelmed when trying to visualize all the components of the satellite being put together.
My current task is to make a documentation of connections between modules in a satellite. I will have to go through all the datasheets of the modules being used. The company is collaborating with a company in Taiwan and the documentation is written in Traditional Chinese. I am not good with reading Simplified Chinese and this is struggle for me.
Furthermore, I was jobless for about a month before I got this job. To accept this job, I took a massive pay cut from my previous job to work in my current job. The pay I have now is half of my previous job.
While I am grateful for the job that I have, I feel that I am not suitable for the role. I do not have domain knowledge of satellite industry and I think I will only stay here because the job pays me.
I will try to find something else on the side to have an additional income stream, something that I enjoy and eventually go all in to grow that income stream.
