Ant Farm - All You Need To Know ( in English)

in #new7 years ago

Ant farms or ant farms name it as you like. I will tell you what a farm should look like, what you need to do it, what your ants need, what parts of such a farm is made and why it is such a nice job.

Ant breeding is becoming more and more common, and the moderate difficulty of breeding these insects, as well as extremely easy accessibility, significantly affect the attractiveness of this branch of terrarium. Colony of ants is a complicated community consisting of a prolific queen, and her infertile daughters, taking care of subsequent generations of offspring

Ants are active from dawn till late evening and have many fascinating social behaviors, such as cooperation in the transport of food, drilling and building chambers and corridors. These are very interesting behaviors that we will never experience while observing, for example, tarantulas or mantis, so observing the life of these insects is an extremely fascinating activity.

Let's start, perhaps, with what kind of ants we should choose to start. Here I am doing a beginner's guide, which is why in my opinion the best genre is Hurtnica Czarna (in Latin Lasius Niger). They are characterized by the fact that they are very resistant to the mistakes of novice breeders. They also have a fast and big increase of the whole colony, which is considered a plus. They are one of the most common species of ants.

When we chose ants, it was time to prepare a formarium and other necessary things for them.  If we do not have a prepared formarium yet, then ants should be kept in a test tube, which we also have to prepare. To prepare such a tube, first pour 1/4 of the test tube with water, and then clog it tightly with cotton wool so that the water does not spill. teram, we put our ants together with food. Poppy seeds are best suited for this purpose. The last thing that has happened to us is the clogging of the cotton tube. So prepared for this tube, we can put aside in a warm, safe place.

Formicarium

The formicarium is a sealed and glass catwalk for ants. It should be about 20cm x 20cm x 10cm, but it also depends on the number of our ants, but these dimensions should be suitable for beginners in my opinion. The formarium functions as a catwalk for our ants. There should be decorative things for our friends. The best solution is to decorate them with artificial grass, cones, sticks and small pebbles and sand in order to be able to build small structures.

Nest

The nest for our ants should be combined with a formarium. it is made of plastic / glass or cork panel (a panel made of bark of cork oak). I recommend the first one because it is usually bigger and has more tunnels and chambers where our ants feel better.

Feeder and drinker (sometimes they are connected together)

A feeder is a small portable box in which we place food for ants. We place the feeder in a formarium. We should determine ourselves how often we feed them. The food for ants should mainly be drops of honey, seeds and protein.  A drinking bottle is usually a test tube filled with water, which easily provides water for drinking for ants. We also place this element in the formarium.

Tweezers

The tweezers will help us to move various elements without making a mess.

All these things  are the basis for creating ants farm and provide comfort to our insects. If we want to enlarge our colonies, we should equip ourselves with additional arenas and connect them with plastic or rubber tubes. Some of the ants also need a higher temperature and then you need to equip yourself with a heating mat, which should be placed under the socket.

As you can see, ants are not expensive and complicated to maintain, and they make a lot of fun and you can learn a lot. You also need to remember that each ants have different requirements such as temperature. Ants that are also many other factors. I cordially invite you all to start ants breeding.
