A spectacular crater five meters in diameter and two meters deep, filled with brackish water, formed on the beach of Lido, in Nice, along the famous Promenade des Anglais, said Thursday a journalist from AFP. It is a "fontis", that is to say "a collapse of the ground surface" caused by groundwater, explained the municipality. The phenomenon has already occurred three times in the last ten years on this completely artificial pebble beach, said the same source.
After the installation of a security perimeter, the city has had its fillers filled by means of a digger in front of a crowd of onlookers. "Do not worry, this is a natural phenomenon that happens four times a year and for journalists, no, the tram did not make a detour," tweeted the Mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi ..
