College is more expensive than ever before. Over the past 20 years, the cost of tuition has increased by 157 percent for private universities, 194 percent for out-of-state public universities and a whopping 237 percent for in-state public universities.

Are there Free Colleges ?

There are a few states such as Rhode Island, Tennessee, New York and Oregon, that offer tuition-free schools. But tuition waivers at these local schools are usually based on residency, household income and other determining factors. New York is the only state among these four states to offer tuition waivers at the four-year level.
Also you can opt for a service academy. Of course it includes the pledging to serve the country after you graduate. They include the; United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy, United States Military Academy, and the United States Naval Academy.
Also there are many governmental and private companies that will offer as a fringe benefit paid tuition for their employees. Of course you have to work so then you would have to be a part time student but by the time you graduate you would have built up valuable work experience that provides a more comprehensive and persuasive resume.
So when students are demonstrating for free tuition, point to them that there are valid options already available.

How is it "fair" to offer free college by means-testing families in New York? If a family of 4 makes $124,000 a year then tuition is free. However if a family of 6 makes $125,000 the tuition is suddenly tens of thousands per kid.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. Also they don't even look at the quality of the student. Why have free tuition if the student can't pass or does not want to work hard in school.
