Hello Steemit community, this is my very first post. Even tho I have been a member at the Steemit community for some months now I haven't written a single post yet, until now. Why is that?
For me using Steemit has a built in barrier. I am more of a regular technology user rather than an enthusiast. And I will try to describe that 'barrier' from my point of view. I found Steemit via Youtube alternative Dtube. Someone had posted a video at Dtube, I watched the video and via the links at Dtube i found Steemit, where I out of curiosity registered an account. After the registration process was completed I logged in at Steemit, and checked it out. Then I logged of, never to return again... until now.
First of all, Steemit ain't that easy to use compared to more mainstream social networks and blogging platforms. The first problem I encountered was the password. Just typing in that crazy-long but secure password to log in is discouraging. Sure it is doable at a PC, but on a smartphone, nah.. It ought to be possible to create a more smartphone friendly login system?
The topics I first encountered when logging in to Steemit might be very interesting for enthusiasts, but for more mainstream regular social media users they might be a bit hard to grasp. I guess, however, they will be easier to follow the more I learn about crypto, bitcoin, Steem etc. and that my lack of knowledge is the problem here rather than the community itself. This seems to be a really cool community, and I am eager to learn more about Steemit.
Another barrier for me personally is the language. English is not my first language. Something that would be really cool would be localization. That would open up Steemit to billions of non-native English speakers.
