"Finding the Lovely" - lyrics - How a musical is born from the heart
These are the lyrics to the opening song of Narcissist the Musical. The main character Azalea is standing on a hill overlooking what used to be Lily Lake. The place is now a barren muddy pit with no water in it. Azalea still comes here to meditate on the way it used to be....her Grandma's lake house where she spent her childhood gazing into the deep blue waters as lilies and lotus flowers floated slowly by, interrupted only by the occasional splash of a frog diving for an evening meal. It was a place of Serenity and Peace. Peat, Azalea's coworker at EPIC (Enlightened People Instigating Change) catches up to her here to congratulate her on a project she had been working on to save the Purple Polka Dot Turtles. They engage in conversation and Peat remarks on how "lovely" Azalea's work has been.
The two of them like so many of us who have a passion for caring for the Planet, Animals, Children, other People, and anything that is not part of oneself often run into times when things seem challenging and hopeless, and we wonder why we can still justify staying with it. This song/poem is a reminder that we can find the Lovely, in fact we must find the Lovely to make this Life worthwhile.
Finding the Lovely
Where do we go to find the Peace?
What beauty lasts in our mind's ease?
How can we all save the day
and grace the world with something left to pray for.
What about the reason we are here.
What about the love that we can share?
Time is lost, can Faith be born
as our Dreams and Passions feel so worn.
Where in the world have we lost our Lovely?
Where in the world have we gone astray?
Something inside tells a better story
somewhere outside we all can play
...in the light, in the love of a new day
...in the fight, in the drive of a whole wondrous new way
Saving our souls and the planetary pathway
to Truth, Beauty, and Life giving byways
Can we reflect this in our actions and compassion
Can we do good when it all seems lost,
and dark, and where is home?
Where in the world can we find the Lovely,
where in the world can we light the way.
Seeking the truth underneath all the dogma
knowing our hearts can lead the way
Today, it's not too late.
Here in this world we must find our Lovely
Here in this world we must light the way.
Letting it be a journey worth taking
Life is what we have at stake.
Today, it's not too late.
Not too Late.....

Beautiful poem! Really resonated with me a lot today as it is a theme I am constantly dealing with and have been for quite some time. Why fight for anything if you can't find any beauty in life? That's so important to not lose sight of that no matter how dark things get. In my opinion anyways.. Thanks for sharing! Great work!
Thanks for the reply...and good to know that folks can find meaning and relate to the feelings invoked in this song. Looking forward to being able to put the song out as well. Thanks again.
