Surreal Sacrifices: Navigating Homesickness and Safety Abroad.

A surreal evening, I find myself reflecting on the sacrifices I made by moving to the UK, all for the safety of my daughters. As I water the garden, the bittersweet emotions of missing my home country overwhelm me. Yet, there is solace in this peaceful moment, with the warm evening air and a glass of wine– would be a VINEYARD if I could afford it – gotta love the exchange rate (1pound =R24)...you gotta be shitting me... providing a temporary escape.

As the evening unfolds, I grapple with the tug-of-war between longing for my home country and embracing the newfound safety and opportunities the UK offers. The sacrifices made as a parent in pursuit of a secure environment for our children come with their own set of challenges and emotions. Yet, it is through these experiences that we grow, adapt, and appreciate the contrasting realities of different cultures. How do I find the balance between longing for home and embracing a new life abroad.
