The Indonesian Ambassador in Abuja, Nigeria, Harry Purwanto wants Indonesian investors not to be afraid of the current condition of Africa. As is known, the most highlighted case in Africa is the acts of terrorism perpetrated by the militant group Boko Haram. That's what makes investors hesitant to invest in Africa.
Harry said Nigeria is the largest country in Africa, both in a population of 190 million people and economically. According to him, Nigeria has many natural resources, such as oil and gas. But by 2016, the Nigerian economy got worse.
"If we look at their consumption because once they see them getting lost on oil and gas, almost everything they consume is imported from the outside, and that is an opportunity for us with 190 million people, not to mention added to 330 million people in West Africa," said Harry at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Tuesday (13/2).
According to Harry, many Indonesian people are still not aware of this potential. They only see Nigerians still dealing with Boko Haram, terrorism, violence and other matters.
"With such potential, we actually have a big enough opportunity to sell our goods (in Nigeria)," Hary said.
"Nevertheless, I see them balum able to meet all the consumption that people want, until they produce their own with a big market, the problem is that Nigeria's perception in Indonesia is not very accurate, more of them have drug links," said Harry.
He asserted that the investment potential in Nigeria is far greater than just violence and terrorism. Currently investing in Nigeria aggressively is China, Japan, South Korea and India.
"Europeans like Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, see Nigeria as a good place for their market, they use bad views about Nigeria to be used in countries that have invested there so their competition is not too heavy," said Harry
