First, I'm following you because of copyright-free material. I write books and self-publish them. I always thought copyright existed to protect me. Then I read Culture vs. Copyright: A Diary of a Naive Philosopher, by Anatoly Volynets. He traces the origin of modern copyright law. It was meant to protect monopolies, not individuals. I'm adjusting to the idea of publishing copyright-free material. As for whistleblowers: at the risk of sounding paranoid, nobody is safe. I look at the cult of personality that has evolved around the president, and then I see all the instruments of power that have accrued to government. Powers the people relinquished in the name of security over the years. This is almost a government by fiat. Where is the check on power? Who or what will protect a whistleblower, or anyone who offends? Secret courts in the name of national security, literally judicial black holes. And no leaders of courage that I see who are willing to protect Constitutional rights--unless it's the Second Amendment. But that doesn't really take courage does it?
