Conspiracy theories are chocked full of confirmation bias. They just want unhappy and unsatisfied people to think, "This so true!" when the truth is their life sucks.

I'd counter-argue this point. The whole "they" approach is kinda flawed, itself a form of cognitive bias in trying to pinpoint blame on someone "out there."
I think such a theory (itself) gives far overestimates the intelligence of man to plan out such intentions, when its much more likely the bullshit is just an unintentional propagation of ignorance and consequences of distorted communication, like the kids' "telephone" game where the news is completely different by the time it gets to the end of the line.
Of course, I could be wrong. There are definitely alot of layers to it...
