BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 P.M.) - The Syrian Army (SAA) is rolling through the vast desert region in southeast Syria after breaking through the Islamic State's (ISIS) defenses.
Backed by heavy airstrikes from the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF), the Syrian Arab Army resumed their offensive in southeast Syria, today, liberating more ground between the Deir Ezzor and Homs governorates.
According to a military source in Homs, the Syrian Arab Army scored another major advance from the May'zlah area to the Fidat bin Muwayna region.
As a result of this advance, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate more than 1,200 square kilometers of territory in this part of the Badiya Al-Sham region of southeast Syria.
This advance comes just hours after the Syrian Army liberated a large chunk of territory near the Humaymah region near the Iraqi border.
The Syrian Army liberated the Wa'er Dam, Tal Al-Wa'er, Tal Kabad, Wadi Afkan, Bir Tayyarah, Bir 'Atshan, and Bir Sijri yesterday after a fierce battle with the Islamic State near the Iraqi border.
This advance by the Syrian Army resulted in the liberation of approximately 2,500 square kilometers of territory from the Islamic State.
The Syrian Army is now working to clear the Islamic State's last pockets in southeast Syria before they kickoff their new offensive in the southwestern provinces of Dara'a and Al-Quneitra.
