Given the scourge that the opioid addiction is anything that is going to help is obviously a welcome news. However, one is left wondering if there may be a better way to avoid the problem from the start.
And this may not necessarily be a pharmacological matter - or even if it is, it may have more to do with the overall, lifelong exposure one receives to various chemicals through diet and other life choices rather than the matter of pain management. Yes, there is pain that needs to be managed, and sometimes narcotic substances are the best way to do so, and addiction is in some cases just a really bad side effect.
So either way - if this new drug is effective - kudos to Purdue Pharma. Though it would be better to try and find some prevention for the problem at hand as it sure would beat having to solve it.
