This would be a good move for AirBnb. I travel quite a bit in the oil industry and I use booking sites all of the time.
I'll go from using their service for weeks and then drift back to the hotels.
Why?
There are three things a hotel gives that Airbnb doesn't:
Ease of use. I can simply walk into a hotel and they are geared to give me a room quickly. Whereas with Airbnb, it's not unusual for a landlord to not have a room ready, or I have to wait for them to get home from work to get in, etc.
Cancel-ability. Most hotels have rules where you can cancel your reservation by a certain time On the day you check in. Airbnb does not do this.
Privacy. This one is not Airbnb's fault. Sometimes you just want to be left alone.
