It's not really 'under the table'. It's all legit, but they don't have to declare in the article in bold letters 'General Electric paid for this shit'.
They just create their own nice-sounding groups like the 'Global Policy Lab', which sounds like an interesting academic venture, but is actually just an elaborate advertising campaign.
Very misleading.
