eTthekwini Municipality is offering training opportunities for youth who meet specified requirements in carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing and business administration. The first opportunity is for youth with an interest in pursuing a career as an artisan in carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing.
Applicants must be unemployed youth between the ages of 18 to 35 for them to be eligible for the eThekwini Municipal Artisan Development Programme for no longer than three years. The programme will consist of theory and practical training in the carpentry and plumbing trades.
Essential requirements to be considered for the programme include completing and passing N2 Carpentry, N2 bricklaying or N2 Plumbing certificate with a trade theory subject, a minimum of Level 3 TVET certificate with related trade theory consisting of 7 total subjects passed and must have successfully completed Technical /Grade 11 and 12 with Maths and Physical Science or Engineering Science with a carpentry or plumbing trade theory subject. Applicants must also be an eThekwini resident (proof of residence required) and be a South African citizen with an Identity Document (ID).
Applicants will be required to undergo an assessment in order to qualify. At the end of the training programme, the apprentice will undergo a formal trade test to qualify as an artisan in the relevant trade. Applicants are required to complete the eThekwini Municipal application form indicating the name of position applied for as follows: Artisan Development (specify the trade applying for).
Applications, including all supporting documents, are to be delivered to the Human Resources Centre of Excellence, 21 Archie Gumede Street, Durban, 4001 by Friday, 9 February 2018 at 12h00. For enquiries contact Zimele Cele on 031 311 3192. Meanwhile, the City is also offering a Business Administration Learnership for a maximum period of 12 months.
Requirements for the programme include having a Grade 12/matric certificate, being between the ages of 18 to 35, be unemployed and not studying in 2018 and have never undergone or benefited from a similar developmental programme. A Municipality application form for employment must be completed for applications. Candidates must also attach a Curriculum Vitae, a certified ID copy and all relevant qualifications certificates. The screening process may include a work sample, medical assessments, interviews and other relevant assessments. Applications must be delivered to the Human Resource Centre of Excellence, 21 Archie Gumede, Durban by 12h00 on 10 February 2018.
No late applications will be considered by the Municipality. Applicants who have not received a response within three months should regard their applications as unsuccessful. For queries regarding the learnership contact 031 311 3192.
