Scratch cards have long offered stories ranging from the grotesque to the tragicomic, such as that of the three friends who ended up in court because one of them did not want to share the prize which was a millionaire win. Another story has ended in court which also concerns a scratch card ticket, counterfeited by three people in an attempt to collect the huge win of 10 million euros.
The events took place in Taranto, when three people discovered that the millionaire win was lost by only two numbers. The three friends, a 51-year-old from Martina Franca and two men aged 46 and 47 from Ceglie Messapica, enticed by the victory, devised a plan to collect the winnings anyway, that is, counterfeiting the ticket.
La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno described the attempt, even rather clumsy, to disguise the numbers. The three basically glued the winning numbers on their ticket in the Maxi bonus section which allows you to win the prize up to 10 times. To give further credibility to their winnings, the three even went to a notary to deposit the presumed winning ticket.
The ticket clearly passed under the magnifying glass of the commission responsible for verifying National Lottery winnings and, once all the necessary checks had been carried out, the deception was exposed. That ticket wasn't a winner at all but it had been counterfeited and now the three scammers will have to respond in court to charges of complicity in forgery, receiving stolen goods and attempted fraud.
