Someone asked me this question (Where do you get your news ?) the other day and I was shocked that I really didn't have a straight answer.
You see, I don't believe in mainstream media anymore and I really don't care too much about things that I can't do anything about or profit, so most times I just look around. Recently steemit.com became a source of news for me as I like to browse the "new" section.
I also use a few tools for curating the news I read, as it truly is too much around to be able stay on top each day.
To start with, my inbox is where I get my most important news, as a programmer mainly I have subscriptions to:
- tech london - news about London's tech scene
- pycoders weekly - new cool libraries and articles related to python
- software lead weekly - delivers a short email with articles related to being a CTO
- react status - new cool libraries and articles related to React
- Golang Weekly - new cool libraries and articles related to golang
- WebOps - all kind of news in the sphere of developing web apps around the http protocol
- StackShare Digest - software tools and stacks used around the world
- Docker Weekly - new cool libraries and articles related to docker
- Rising Stack Blog - new cool libraries and articles related to node.js and rising stack
Day to day life:
- Tim Ferris's blog - tips on optimising everything around you
- Simple Programmer - peak performing as a programmer
- London Real - interviews with mentors and peak performance tips
I am also subscribed to a few youtube channels for the sole purpose of listening to news:
- Bloomberg Tech
- Dash
- The Cryptoverse - my favourite news source about anything crypto
- Dollar Vigilante - one of the places for anarchy on the www :p
- This week in startups
I do read tech news from time to time, some of them on medium some of them on other portals, this is a curated list of my bookmarks:

I would love to see your list, please comment or link your article in the comment section below. Steem on!
I think knowing where we get our news is incredibly important. We can see, or might not see, the bias of our positions and the leaders we find intelligent and worth following.
Interestingly enough, most news media cites and avenues will report ablit tge same stories using the same soundbites and come to totally different conclusions.
The news ans its bias is important to know when we are looking for our own take on a story or person.
I appreciated the post and discussion. News is incredibly important!
I think it's important to get your news from many different sources and find the truth somewhere in the middle. By that i even mean the mainstream tripe. Some good alt media sources on Youtube are 'The Humanist report' 'secular talk' and Jordan on TYT. But i would still get a second and third opinion. Thanks for your list. Will check them out.
Nice suggestions, will check yours as well.

It is indeed getting difficult to get the true story. The technique that I use now is to pigeonhole various channels/media and make a point of view. For example, if Goldman Sachs comes out with the statement that gold is going up then we know, in the short term it is going down. When the media is poo-pooing cryptos then you know, it is time to load up. Even various youtube channels take extreme views so one has to get a sense of direction and then make a judgement call. Critical thinking is the key.
I try to separate the grain from the chaff and write daily blogs on steem. Feel free to check it out.

Thanks @ajain, curious though, reading your reply, have you put any thought on this before ? do you have a defined funnel that you can share ? I am usually put off by the amount of news to the point that there is not worth paying attention to some at times.
Funnel? I use raw data such as actual price and then perform technical analysis. When it comes to geopolitical events, I try to obtain the ground level view by talking to people who are actually living out there and their experiences and observation instead of relying on media. There are quite a few people on steem from various countries who provide what's happening at the ground level. Then one also has to look for agenda of the war mongering. For example, when media puts out a story that Iran is funding North Korean missile program (an out of blue report), and then after couple of weeks it puts out a report that Iran supported the 9/11 terrorist act, then one has to question the motive.
Hello. In Russia, news is learned on TV, from the radio, on the phone, advertising. A lot of news sources, for example I use the phone, I have a Rio news program installed in my cottage.
