Tax collector in Florida starts to accept payments in Bitcoin!

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Today I saw this announcement in coindesk, about the fact that people in Florida will be able to cover some of their tax expenses by using BTC and BCH.

Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg said in a statement Monday that his office will take bitcoin and bitcoin cash for payments associated with driver licenses and ID cards, automobile tags and titles and property tax. | Source

The agency in question will work with BitPay to make this come true. I have seen one fellow steemian using BitPay these past few days, check for example this post from @ackza.

I think there are other cryptos (like steem) that could work better in a context like that one, but it is nonetheless a good news for the crypto space and its users, because this could create a new trend in which more and more tax collectors start to add this payments options to make everything easier for the citizens.

This quote is great and it proves that crypto have the potential to eventually be used for all kind of stuffs:

to bring government services from the 18th century into the 21st century and one way is the addition of cryptocurrency to our payment options. | Source

The reason why they are just using bitcoin instead of other cryptos that are faster and more efficient is in my opinion simply because of popularity and name recognition. It should be no difficult for us to imagine in a few years a good proportion of people doing their taxes and other expenses entirely on the blockchain.

Besides, this will surely help crypto earn some legitimacy in the eyes of the people that still have doubts about it.

What do you think are the implications of being able to pay your taxes with cryptocurrencies?

Interesting, I live in that county. Will be interesting to see how many people actually pay for these services with Bitcoin.

At the beginning there should be not much people. But within a few years it could easily become a new trend.

Hope this could increase bitcoin's price!

Yeah me too, with time it should increase.

I think this is really brilliant @dedicatedguy. Being able to do the needful without an excessive strain on ones fiat source of livelihood is definitely a plus, any time any day for me. I really hope this would boost global recognition and acceptance of crypto currency as a legal tender in no time.

I hope so too, one step at a time, that will become true.
