A police officer is in hot water over in Ohio, after video footage of him assaulting a paramedic surfaced online and quickly went viral.
The video footage shows an altercation taking place between the officer and the paramedic and it's alleged that the officer grabbed him by the collar and pushed him up against the police cruiser. The police were called to the scene after an emergency call was placed on the weekend, it appears that there was a physical altercation at the bar. By the time the police showed up, the paramedics were already there and already treating the victim.
The man that was involved in the bar fight was left unconscious and the paramedics were treating him, before he regained consciousness and slightly started to freak out about what was going on and the people around him etc. Rather than dealing with the situation in a calm and reasonable manner, the police decided that force was necessary and so they opted to go for the taser.
After the EMT saw that the police was tasering the injured man, he allegedly tried to intervene, and clearly the officer didn't like his authority being questioned.
Sounds like a real peace-keeper...
Perhaps we shouldn't have people on the streets who have rage problems/don't know how to control their anger, hiding behind the authority of a costume and a badge. It sounds like a recipe for something bad to happen, doesn't it? Shouldn't police departments strive to employ decent and level-minded individuals within their ranks? Intelligent folks who might have the sense to understand that perhaps tasering a man who just woke-up from being unconscious probably isn't the best method to take if you're looking to DE-escalate the situation?
Many bad apples seem to slip through the vetting process all too frequently.
The EMT, who probably is more well-versed on personal health/medical needs than your average officer, tried to relay to the officer that the man was injured, bleeding, and had head problems, but that only angered the officer. Rather than mustering the intellectual capability to deal with the situation, he resorted to violence.
The officer then discovered that he was being recorded, got mad about it (as is tradition) and proceeded to allegedly cross the street and engage/communicate in a hostile manner with those who were within their rights if they were filming him either on their own private property or on public property grounds.
The Portsmouth Police Department have said that for now that officer has been placed on administrate leave and there is currently an investigation underway.

absolutely! good/real officers should try their best to weed these types of bad apples out from their ranks rather than trying to protect them all the time
For sure it is like bad doctors or bad in any profession they spoil it for everyone else and do an immense amount of harm - in police and medical work especially since people end up dead!
There are no good cops. The bad barrel makers(the unelected and unaccountable position of "police chief") make sure that only bad apples are accepted. Who else wants to (or will) enforce unjust laws? Only the most morally-degraded person. Who can't understand that the laws are unjust? Only the stupidest person. So, if you select for "willingness to enforce unjust laws," you get ..."bad"(stupid or evil) people.
The logic is irrefutable. Act accordingly.
right as an occupation itself and currently funded the way it is, you're right the position itself isn't a positive one. Yet I can't help but cheer them on when they actually do target/penalize true scumbags, rapists, murderers, pedophiles, and so on
That's right. We need to support calm and collected minds, capable of dealing rationally with emergency situations. Not the kind of people quick to escalate a confrontation or a fight.
