Portugal wants to levy taxes on bitcoins

The Finance Ministry clarifies that taxpayers working with bitcoins have to pay taxes if, "by their usual practice, they constitute a professional or business activity". This response took almost two months to come and put an end to a contradiction within the fiscal machine itself.

Like the Bank of Portugal, which has issued several communiqués warning of the dangers of negotiating these bitcoins, the Tax Authority recognizes that "current Portuguese tax legislation does not contemplate this type of activity", but argues, however, that these revenues Have to be taxed.
