Little by little the details of the Obama administration's response to the hacks of democratic institutions and the DNC are known. But this goes much further, according to the White House, Russia not only seeks to hack the electoral system and the Democratic National Committee but also to compromise infrastructure services in critical sectors, this is a more important and vital for the future of relations between Russia and the United States.
Another accusation is about the intention of damaging computer networks through DOS attacks, as well as appropriating funds or economic resources, trademark secrets, personal identification, financial information for a competitive and commercial advantage.
Mainly those targeted by the White House would be the Russian GRU and FSB. This would be an indicator for the White House of the direct relationship with senior ranks in the Kremlin. One of the important points the White House seeks is to raise awareness about cybercrime actions by the Russian State, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) .
White House says cyber security is vital to the challenges of national security and the economic stability of the United States and that is why the Obama administration's response seems so compelling. But Russian attacks are not the only cyber attacks in recent times, the United States has also considered that states like North Korea and China have been responsible for different types of cyber attacks with different reasons. Generally the motives for attacks from China will have to do more with trade secrets and generally be mostly interested in business enterprises, but this is for another article for another time.
Clearly there is no cold war in cyberspace, clearly war in cyberspace is hot and present and this is proven by the latest developments, the most important in the Russian American relationship since the end of the Cold War.
