The fire in the shopping centre in the Philippines probably killed 37 people, the local authorities reported. The tragedy occurred in the southern city of Davao. Paolo Duterte, deputy mayor, wrote on Facebook that there were no chances of survival for 37 people.
The fire broke out in a four-storey NCCC Mall shopping centre yesterday morning in local time. It started to spread on the third floor, where there were textiles, wooden furniture and plastic products. The fire spread rapidly. The people inside the building were trapped. It was also impossible to get out of the building on the top floor of the building called call center.
The President of Rodrigo Duterte, who was mayor of Davao for more than twenty years and still lives there, visited the place of tragedy and met with the families of people who were likely to have lost loved ones in the fire.
I hope that lessons were learned here and there will always be a chance for people to escape a fire.
