The entry of USB-C into the Apple universe is increasing in recent years. First it was the MacBook and from there it has little by little reached other Mac and finally iOS thanks to the new iPad Pro. Even though Apple sells accessories and cables for its products, few of us find other manufacturers and in fact none certified by Apple. This will start to change from next year according to new clues.
What is and how an MFi accessory is made
Cables and general MFi accessories are products that have been verified and certified by Apple as suitable for use with their products. This provides an additional confidence / assurance that the accessory will not damage the Apple product because it has not passed a minimum test. It does not mean that it is 100% safe, but it certainly has more guarantees than any other accessory.
To ensure that a product is certified, manufacturers must not only pass minimum tests and quality levels, but must also use exclusive components. In fact, it is Apple itself that manufactures the basic components such as the Lightning connector, so manufacturers must ask Apple for these components to add to their accessories.
The company last week informed members of the MFi program that they will be able to order Lightning connectors soon to manufacture Lightning cables to USB-C with which to load or synchronize an iOS device. For these new accessories a new model of the Lightning cable codenamed C94 will be used.
What does this mean? Basically we will have more chargers on the market for fast charging (and possibly cheaper) that take advantage of the potential of a USB-C cable. Currently for fast charging virtually no options if it is not the official Apple cable, and in this case we will have to spend more than 30 euros for it, it is not included in the iPhone case.
Currently the only "safe" pack we can buy for fast charging.
Why you should use only MFi accessories
Using an MFi accessory is not mandatory when using our iOS products, but it is highly recommended. Accessories certified by Apple have undergone extensive testing to offer a quality at least equal to that of Apple in terms of operational safety. Of course it is not the best of ideas to charge a device of more than 1,000 euros with a dubious quality accessory that can overheat or even ruin the iPhone / iPad.But above all, if there is something for which it is advisable to use an accessory MFi is for the security of our information . A malware can be introduced even in a simple USB cable and if that cable has access to the iPhone, we have already seen that through the connector there are methods and methods to access the iPhone / iPad in a hidden way. It's better to prevent than to cure.
