I live in Ischia, Italy, this is what happens here:
Six collapsed buildings, two dead, several people scattered under the rubble, some even seriously injured.
Terror in the eyes of those who chose to spend the night in the street for fear that the earthquake that struck the island of Ischia around 9pm could not have exhausted its strength. The people of Casamicciola remembered the terrible earthquake that caused 1800 deaths here, fearing the terrible story is repeated.
The area most affected by the collapse seems to be the upper part of Casamicciola that has the oldest buildings. Stopped and isolated roads and great fear, considering that we are close to the week of August and that one-third of Campania vacationers are staying in Ischia.
The extent of the earthquake damage that struck the Ischia island last night at 20.57 (the shock was magnitude 4 at a depth of only 5 km, an element that amplified the damage) can also be linked to the particular geological nature , 'Friable' and 'unstable' of the island.
An elderly woman died at Casamicciola after having been shot dead by a piece of the church of Santa Maria del Suffragio: this is the first known victim of the earthquake that struck Ischia. But there is also a second victim, another woman. Numerous heavily damaged buildings in Casamicciola where several collapses have also occurred. Rescue workers in Ischia seek to recover seven people - an entire family nucleus - who were buried for the collapse of a house-related home in a Casamicciola street.
