Bangladesh government today allotted Tk 2,312 crore for temporarily accommodating the Rohingya refugees, who fled persecution in Myanmar and await repatriation.
The project, Ashrayan-3, will be implemented by the Bangladesh navy, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters after a meeting of a top government body.
The meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), held at the planning commission, also decided that will be a fast-track project.
Rohingya refugees will be temporarily sheltered in the project Ashrayan-3 that will be implemented at Bhashanchar area in Hatiya of Noakhali, the minister said.
After the Rohingyas leave, the project will be used to accommodate the poor of Bangladesh.
According to latest estimates, over 700,000 Rohingya refugees have fled into Bangladesh after an escalation in violence in Rakhine state amid outright denial of Myanmar.
