At a time when working at home is the new norm and Zoom is an essential app for communicating in this crazy #covid pandemic. Some companies aren't playing around especially in Japan.
A Graduate of Hosei University in Tokyo going under the pseudonym “Yota Yoshida,” was recently recruited at this unnamed IT company to only then be fired for having improper manners during a Zoom call after working with them for a month.
The company had stated that one of the requirements for attending Zoom meetings were that workers would wear dress shirts, but apparently rebel boy Yoshida decided to wear a cardigan over his dress shirt this one time, after following company policy when he first started. It was also noted that his knee was shown in the frame as well as his chin being in and out of the frame at times, which were the main reasons for his termination. If he only knew that was coming. 😅
Yoshida got word from HR to come to the office where he was then told that he would be terminated for his conduct. He was given the option of one months' salary if he resigned from the company by the end of the month.
"We are an IT company that attaches great importance to manners over technology", said the company representative when interviewed.
Japan's work culture can be deem rather strict, especially in the case of a simple zoom call.
Do you think that it's fair to be fired for not being in the Zoom frame 🤔
The least they could have done was given him a warning in my opinion. What do you guys think?
