The minor managed to flee although the police began an intense search to find his whereabouts
Agents of the Human Trafficking Unit of the National Police of Peru (PNP) detained Estefanía Jahaira Fernández Haro, 21, in Trujillo this morning, accused of alleged offenses of rape of a minor and inducement to escape of Minor in torturing a child of 12 years, who would also be his partner.
Fernández was detained in a building in the Perla Baja urbanization, south of Trujillo, La Libertad region. The minor, however, managed to flee, although police have begun an intense search to find his whereabouts.
A 15-year-old woman was also treated with the woman. The police in this case investigates whether or not the girl was forced to prostitute herself by Estefanía Fernández or an alleged trafficking network.
The head of the Police Trafficking Unit in Trujillo, Major César Castro Rivera, told El Comercio that the PNP acted in response to a complaint lodged by the maternal grandmother of the minor, on May 19. Since that date, Estafanía Fernández and the minor would have escaped to live together.
"The minor was reported missing, but then we found some evidence of an alleged relationship with the woman and we went to the house where they were, although unfortunately he managed to flee," the official said.
Estafanía Fernández and the 15-year-old teenager were taken to the San Andrés police station in Trujillo. PNP Commander César Castro recalled that the age of sexual consent in Peru is 14 years. According to the Penal Code, when the victim is between 10 and 13 years of age, the accused receives a sentence of between 30 and 35 years.
