Not One—BUT FOUR COPS—Cowered In Fear as Kids Were Murdered in FL Shooting

roward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson resigned this week  after a video showed him cowering in fear while there was a shooting at  Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Now it has been revealed that there were three other officers who  were taking cover instead of trying to help.

All of the officers who hid  were apparently from the Broward County Sheriff’s office and were the  first to arrive on the scene. They apparently waited for reinforcements before doing anything, but  according to officers with Coral Springs Police Department, the Broward  County officers remained outside and did not immediately follow them to  apprehend the suspect.

According to CNN, during a vigil after the tragedy, Coral Springs  City Manager Mike Goodrum confronted Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel  over the actions of his deputies, saying that it could have cost some  of those children their lives. This issue has caused a bit of drama  between the two police departments who are now both bitterly criticizing  one another’s response to the shooting.

Trump Suggests Ratings For Violent Movies And Games - But They Already Exist

As usual, President Donald Trump has been all over the place in  his response to the recent Florida school shooting. On Thursday when  addressing solutions to school violence, Trump took a page out of the  1990s politicians playbook to pin the blame on violent movies and video  games.

“We have to look at the internet because a lot of bad things are  happening to young kids and young minds, and their minds are being  formed, and we have to do something about maybe what they’re seeing and  how they’re seeing it. And also video games,” Trump said.

He then went on to suggest that a rating system be implemented on  this type of media, even though rating systems exist for both movies and  video games. “I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence in video  games is really shaping young people’s thoughts. And you go one further  step and that’s the movies. … maybe they have to put a rating system for  that,” he said.

New Reality TV Show Will Manipulate Contestants Into Committing Murder

A new show announced by Netflix called, “The Push,” is  promising to take reality television to new extremes, with a theme of  manipulating contestants into committing murder. The show will be hosted  by Derren Brown, a man who calls himself a “psychological illusionist” Derren Brown is not a stranger to controversial reality television,  there has already been a UK version of the show with this same premise  but with the name, “Derren Brown: Pushed To The Edge.”

Brown came on the  scene In 2011 with a similar show called “The Assassin,” where he  hypnotized someone and tried to convince them to murder a celebrity. The show will place contestants in the most extreme and stressful  position ever, being pressured to take a human life.

A trailer released  this week teases an episode where a young man is put into a situation  where he is unknowingly surrounded by 70 actors who are all setting him  up to commit murder. For some reason, the man is being convinced to push  someone off a ledge to their death. Of course, no one will actually get murdered on the show, but these  experiments are sure to leave lasting mental marks on the contestants.

MIT Researchers Make Salt Water Drinkable With Solar Technology

As drought and water shortages become more of a concern in  places like California, scientists are looking for new ways to solve the  problem. One solution recently came from MIT, where a team was able to  come up with a way of turning salt water into drinking water. The process uses solar power and is environmentally sustainable. It was reported that the process can convert 2,100 gallons of salt water into drinking water in just 24 hours.

According to a full explanation on from MIT:

The group came up with a method that uses solar panels to charge a  bank of batteries. The batteries then power a system that removes salt  from the water through electrodialysis, that means that dissolved salt  particles, which have a slight electric charge, are drawn out of the  water when a small electrical current is applied. Both electrodialysis and reverse osmosis require the use of  membranes, but the membranes in an electrodialysis system are exposed to  lower pressures and can be cleared of salt buildup simply by reversing  the electrical polarity. That means the expensive membranes should last  much longer and require less maintenance. In addition, electrodialysis  systems recover a much higher percentage of the water — more than 90  percent, compared with about 40 to 60 percent from reverse-osmosis  systems, a big advantage in areas where water is scarce.

Study: Regularly Working With Cleaning Supplies As Bad As Smoking A Pack-A-Day

According to a new study published in the American Thoracic  Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine,  working with cleaning supplies on a regular basis can be just as  damaging to your health as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

The study concluded that “long-term  respiratory health is impaired 10-20 years after cleaning activities.  We found accelerated lung function decline in women both following  occupational cleaning and cleaning at home. The effect size was  comparable to the effect size related to 10-20 pack-years of tobacco  smoking.”  In addition to decreased lung capacity, the study also found  increased risks of asthma.

The study was led by Scientists at Norway’s  University of Bergen, who tracked 6,000 people who used popular cleaning  products over a period of two decades. The scientists measured the test  subjects’ lung function by putting them through various breathing tests  and then surveying them about their exposure to cleaning chemicals.

LA Has Criminalized Poverty By Making It Illegal To Sleep In Cars and RVs

Raising rent prices and low wages have resulted in thousands of  people across the city of Los Angeles becoming homeless, many of them  now living in cars and RVs if they were able to keep it together that  well. According to the most recent counts by the KPCC, there are at least 7,000 people live in their cars in Los Angeles. Many of these people still maintain jobs and try to live the most  fulfilled lives that they can, but they are constantly facing problems  from authorities.

It is such a common issue that many churches have opened up their  parking lots to people living out of their cars. For example, the New  Beginnings Counseling Center opened up their parking lot for a “Safe  Parking program,” which was intended to provide a safe and welcome  parking place for people living out of their cars.

Unfortunately, under  new legislation passed in Los Angeles, programs like this will be illegal, because sleeping in cars and RVs have been entirely outlawed. Under the new laws, it is illegal to sleep in a car or RV that is  parked in a residentially zoned area from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Areas within  one block of a park, daycare, or school are entirely off limits. Fines  will range anywhere from $25 to $75 which is impossible to pay for most  people in these situations.

Study: Dancing can reverse the signs of aging in the brain

According to a study published in the open-access journal  Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, dancing can reverse signs of aging in  the brain. The study also found that dancing showed greater results than  other types of physical activity.

Dr Kathrin Rehfeld, lead author of the study, explained that, "Exercise  has the beneficial effect of slowing down or even counteracting  age-related decline  in mental and physical capacity. In this study, we  show that two different types of  physical exercise  (dancing and  endurance training) both increase the area of the brain  that declines  with age. In comparison, it was only dancing that lead to  noticeable  behavioral changes in terms of improved balance."  The subjects in the study had an average age of 68 and were split off  into two separate groups, one to test the effects of dancing and the  other endurance training.  "We tried to provide our seniors in the dance group with  constantly  changing dance routines of different genres (Jazz, Square,   Latin-American and Line Dance). Steps, arm-patterns, formations, speed   and rhythms were changed every second week to keep them in a constant   learning process. The most challenging aspect for them was to recall  the  routines under the pressure of time and without any cues from the   instructor," Rehfeld said.

"Right now, we are evaluating a new system called "Jymmin"  (jamming  and gymnastic). This is a sensor-based system which generates  sounds  (melodies, rhythm) based on physical activity.  We know that  dementia patients react strongly when listening to music.  We want to  combine the promising aspects of physical activity and active  music  making in a feasibility study with dementia patients. I believe that  everybody would like to live an independent and  healthy life, for as  long as possible. Physical activity is one of the  lifestyle factors  that can contribute to this, counteracting several  risk factors and  slowing down age-related decline. I think dancing is a powerful tool to  set new challenges for body and mind, especially in older age," Rehfeld added.

Politicians Push New Legislation To Make Saggy Pants Illegal

In recent decades, cities and states throughout the country  have been slowly and silently criminalizing saggy pants. A new bill  proposed in the South Carolina will threaten fines for anyone who has  pants that hang more than three inches below the waistline, even if  their skin is not exposed.

On February 15th, South Carolina lawmakers introduced House Bill  4957, which states that it will be illegal for men or boys to be seen in  public “wearing his pants more than three inches below the crest of his  ileum exposing his skin or undergarments.”

Thestate.com pointed out that the lawmakers spelled “ilium” wrong in  the bill, which is the correct spelling of a part of the hip bone. Instead, they typed ileum, which is a part of the small intestine. If the bill passes it will allow police to write fines that increase  with every ticket.

The first offense would carry a $25 fine, the second  offense would carry a $50 fine and/or up to 3 hours of community  service, and a $75 fine and/or 6 hours of community service thereafter.

The Solar Revolution Is Solving Africa’s Energy Crisis

Remote areas in Africa have become accustomed to living without  electricity, as the type of infrastructure necessary is very sparse and  costly throughout the entire continent. However, as the price and  efficiency of solar technology steadily improves, the African market has  been quick to catch on and take advantage of this cleaner form of  energy. This year, a number of solar upstarts have broken new ground in  Africa, and some foreign investors are even moving in to help make solar  technology a more widespread possibility.

Sheriff Took $110,000 From Prison Food Fund - 49 Other Sheriffs Doing The Same

An Alabama Sheriff was recently caught pocketing over $110,000  in  taxpayer money that was allocated for feeding inmates in the county  jail  that he runs.

According to prosecutors, between the years of 2014 and 2016, Monroe County Sheriff Thomas Tate pocketed large sums of money that was   supposed to buy food for inmates at the jail. Unfortunately, this is a   common practice across the state, with many Sheriffs doing this out in   the open, claiming that they aren’t doing anything wrong.

Sheriff Tate claims that a state law allows local police to keep any   leftover tax money that was intended to feed county jail inmates.   However, this leaves an obvious incentive for Sheriffs to cut corners  or  neglect their responsibilities in feeding inmates.

Derren Brown is awesome, I saw a thing once where he was at a racetrack and then he would take a losing betting slips and mindfuck the cashier into paying out on them as if they were winners. NLP is awesome.
