Offline October, A New Type of Social Media

The growth of SM apps are increasing so fast that we almost could not keep up on its development. These SM apps are just around the corner and can be access so easily with just a press of a button.

We have the most popular such as Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and more.

People have change their manner of communicating which usually resulted to an absence of feeling. Anybody can attack somebody through social media affecting its behavior.

There's no doubt that these social media apps has advantages and have improved so many lives but we could not hide the fact that youngsters are risking their lives unknowingly. They learned to cause harm to its peers by just simply expressing themselves.

Expressing how we felt is good but to express it in order to make somebody feel bad about himself or towards something is troublesome.

It's now almost impossible to stay away from these apps, simply because it had already became our habit that in everything we do, we need to share it socially.

But there's a group of students at Littleton, Colorado made some effort to free themselves from these social media and created to their own called OfflineOctober. Its an offline social media which main goal is to stop hiding from their mobile or computer screens and start spending time with each other face to face.

After they launched the said offline social media, they decided to delete all their social media apps from their phones. Through the word of mouth and continuous invitation, the program spread throughout the locality and had reach local news and some citizens.

OfflineOctober is now promoted with these slogan "Don't post a story. Live one."

Unfortunately, the program only lasted for a month and they are looking forward for the next program which will be called OfflineOctober 2.0.

How social media affect our lives is not a question at all but how are we going to let it affect us.

This is the sad truth. In the advent of techy generation, we often forget to live at the moment. In fact, even if we're with our family and friends physically, we hardly talk to each other, but find ourselves chatting on fb, tweeting on twitters, commenting on instagram.

We face our gadgets to communicate rather than talking to the "real" person beside us.

Yeah, the usual conversation at home during every meal as what our ancestors do during the old times are now gone. Maybe it would also be a good idea to start "free SM home." No social media while at home. This will promote good relationship to every member of the family.

I agree, that would be a great idea.
