A few days ago, I attended an event at Laurier University in Waterloo Ontario that was put on by the Laurier Students For Open Inquiry.
Initially the event was supposed to be a debate about immigration with Faith Goldy against it, who is a self identified catholic nationalist.
Five Ontario Professors were asked to oppose Goldy and all of them declined to attend the debate.
The LSOI group decided to keep going with the event regardless, and launched the Unpopular Opinions Speaker Series with Goldy hosting the first presentation titled: “Ethnocide: Multiculturalism and European Canadian Identity".
The presentation was to be held behind closed doors, which was purely optional, and safe spaces were even provided by Laurier University who put out a statement after receiving backlash from students and professors, who were trying to shut down the event.
Ripping down posters and taking to social media, Antifa as well as other protesters made a promise that Goldy would be de-platformed and silenced because “Neo-Nazi’s are not welcome at Laurier”.
No one is forced to agree with Faith Goldy’s point of view on the subject, but in order to challenge the points she brings up, at the very least - she needs to be heard.
Well, that never happened. Before the introductions even took place, protesters pulled the fire alarm and 125 people were evacuated and the event was shut down. Exactly what the Social Justice Warrior doctor ordered.
Once evacuated, a group gathered across the street from the school where Goldy gave a quick statement.
Post modernism has infiltrated Canadian Universities. Students are paying to become soldiers in training who fight in the name of cultural marxism. They will pull fire alarms, - wasting first responders time, resort to ad-hominem attacks, and do anything as promised, to shut down or de-platform opinions that challenge the agenda they’ve been subjected to.
Free speech on University and college campuses around Canada is dwindling and an unpopular opinion isn’t necessarily a wrong opinion, so long as you’re allowed to voice it.
Political correctness has had its outcome realized....everyone is afraid to offend the other. Even though bullying is a big topic discussed within the confines of elementary schools, it seems to be a popular tactic with adults. Yelling at the other with emotions high and insults coming.
We need to bring debates and logical reasoning back into the classrooms, and universal testing be damned. You can discuss with facts, potentially "lose" a debate, and then shake hands afterwards. It's called being a good person.
