BANDA ACEH - The news of sorrow enveloped the activists and lovers of the world of conservation after the news of Amirah's death, spread on Monday (09/24/2018) this morning.
Head of the Aceh Conservation and Natural Resources Agency (BKSDA), Sapto Aji Prabowo, in his statement to Klikkabar.com, said that he was currently at the Elephant Conservation Center (PKG) in Saree, Aceh Besar, where Amirah had been treated so far.
Amirah said she collapsed this morning because of the declining health conditions due to complications of the disease. The medical team that tries to provide help cannot do much despite having carried out various rescue efforts.
As per the initial analysis, Amirah did have problems with kidney and heart problems. He also lacks calcium, said Sapto.
He also admitted that he would take samples of several organs of Amirah's body, for the investigation process and the exact cause of Amirah's death.
After that, Amirah will be buried. We apologize, we can't save Amirah's life, said Sapto.
Just to note, Amirah is a Sumatran baby elephant (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus) wild female who arrived and was treated at PKG Saree since Thursday, May 3 2018.
The Aceh BKSDA team led by Region 1 Head of Section, Dedi Irvansyah and assisted by a medical team from Usnyiah at that time succeeded in evacuating the baby elephant after being hit by the hunter's snare and left by its herds in the Geumpang forest area in Pidie District.
