The US sends over 1,000 marines for six months of training in Australia

The Australian Defense Minister said the United States would break the record of sending Marines to train with the country. This statement comes in the midst of Washington's efforts to counter what it describes as Chinese aggression in the region.

Marise Payne said 1,587 US Marines will spend six months training in the remote north of Australia. This number increased by almost 27 percent compared to 2017 for a program known as the Force Posture Initiatives.

"The US military plays an important role in ensuring security and stability throughout the Indo Pacific, and Force Posture Initiatives will be an important component in maintaining stability and security over the next few decades,"
