Is Jim Carrey a criminal? My Thoughts!

What i will be talking about!

Actor Jim Carrey is facing a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of Cathriona White after she committed suicide last year for supposedly getting STDs and prescription drugs from the actor. I will be discussing what i consider to be where personal responsibility ends and criminal behavior begins.

Is it criminal?

Is it considered criminal behavior to intentionally infect someone with an STD or in this case multiple STDs? I think that the answer is ...no. Sure its a crappy thing to do but as i and i'm sure many of you were taught in health class was to always know your partners health statues and if you were not sure make them use a condom or a better solution don't have sex with them. If they are that desperate they make silicon devices for occasions like this. In a society were evil people are around every corner should she of really trusted someone to tell the truth that they have a life threatening disease? Which gets me to my point of where personal responsibility ends and criminal behavior begins. If she asked for his test results, she would have seen he was positive, this is personal responsibility. If she asked for his test results and he forged them to say he was negative when in fact he was positive, that is criminal behavior. The intent to deceive and malice for another's life is clear in the second scenario but not in the first, this is what should be used to determine if a wrongful death lawsuit is valid and not public outrage that is instigated by the media.

There was reckless behavior from both parties involved but i think that this comes back to the issue of personal responsibility. She should have made sure that Jim was STD free before sleeping with him, don't just take their word for it, Jim supposedly gave her the illegal prescription pills as well but did he shove them down her throat? ...no. So how can he be blamed for her suicide?. Most people have had some kind of trauma in their life, its how we choose to react to it that will determine our future. Sure we could blame the trauma for becoming a drug addict or a criminal or we can deal with and move on with our life.

Cathriona's parents are just looking for someone to blame for a shitty thing that happened to them and their lawyer is just looking for a quick payday from a celebrity, nothing more. They assume that Jim is liar and has something to hide all because he would not give into blackmail and release to STD test results for all the world to see in exchange for them dropping the lawsuit. How can anyone really be sure that she didn't get the STDs from another sexual partner before or while she was with Jim, its not like they have "contracted from ...." label attached to them.

In conclusion!

Maybe Jim is a liar and a crappy person for giving her the STDs but people need to take responsibility for their own self preservation, instead of just assuming a stranger is telling you the truth. This is another short post as there is not much to talk about in this case but self preservation and personal responsibility/accountability is another matter entirely and i don't want to get started as this is just my thoughts on a news story not on the issue itself, that will come later.

Anyway that is my rant for today. If you are still here thanks for reading, if you have a different opinion leave a comment, if you agree with me leave a comment. Don't leave a comment if you are not willing to have an intelligent conversation about the issue.

PS. I know intentionally infecting someone is a crime but i'm trying to explain why i think it is not that black and white.

Sort:

i don't know what "official proof" is.

yes, it is a crime to knowingly infect someone with a disease.

no, it is not guilt of wrongful death.
